on loving what we cannot see

I get so scared that ford won’t love his dad, won’t know enough about Pete to connect with him. That all of our stories won’t paint a vivid enough picture of what his dad was like. But I keep thinking lately about how many things we grow up loving wholeheartedly even when they’re not necessarily tangible. Some people love Jesus. They love God. They’ve never met them. We instill a love of Santa Claus in our kids, but they’ve never met the guy (and we even tell them the mall versions are just stand-ins). They lose their shit over Elmo, Paw Patrol, Iron Man… most of whom will never come off of the TV screens for them.

Of course Ford will love his dad. Because we do.
